Who Are The Team at Scottish Ancestry?

Scottish Ancestry was started by two friends who are both of Scottish descent but widely different geographical ancestry. Paul Keatley was the driving force behind the first forays into family tree research as his father hailed from Glasgow. Gathering what little information he could he began with searches on the internet, which can be a fairly unforgiving place.

Happening upon “Scotlands People”, Paul soon found that tracing his ancestors from online records was possible and there he began his research. After some successes he talked with his friend Steve Jones (don’t be put off by the name, he’s actually 75% Scottish!) and so began a partnership that saw them both trace their families back through to the 1700’s and discover new relatives in various countries that they never knew existed!

So It’s Easy Then? I’ll Do It Myself…

Not quite. Not at all in fact.

Here at Scottish Ancestry we are very happy to provide guidance and to share with you the pitfalls and problems that come with family tree research. However, before you decide on the bold move please hear why we have set up this site and offer our services.

It has cost Paul and Steve a combined total of over £2,150 to get to where they needed to be. How can that be? Well, Scotlands People is a great resource but it isn’t cheap. And if you are taking educated guesses on certain records, as they did because there’s little choice, then it’s even less cheap!

They estimate that the £2,150 could include at least £725 of searches that weren’t even their relatives! And what price your hundreds of hours of spare time taken up sifting through the internet? Plus you can’t get all of the records you need from the internet, they are not all available.

Time for a radical rethink…..

So Why Does Scottish Ancestry Exist?

Paul and Steve approached a small gathering of interested genealogists with website experience. From their experiences it was decided to take the sting out of family tree research and offer a value for money service to suit every pocket.

The idea was to save all of those hours and all of the expense that anybody starting out faces… and we are doing that right now!

So How Do You Do It?

It’s no mystery and we don’t mind anybody knowing what we do to deliver at the prices we do.

Quite simply, it is far cheaper to research directly at the General Records Offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh than it is to do it online. A lot cheaper in fact.

Plus, the records that aren’t available anywhere online are available there. So a visit to the Records Office kills two birds with one stone.

The downside for anybody would be travel and accommodation, unless like us you live near enough to make day trips.

So What Do We Do Now?

Take a look at the packages available on our “Your Family Tree” page and see what you think. There is no obligation to buy into our services, and if you look around the site we give you tips on how to do some of the research yourself.

We hope you enjoy our site and would love the opportunity to work on your family tree over the coming weeks.
